Magazine work is a great way to earn some points and learn some interesting facts about music. All magazine work for August, September, October, November and December magazines will be DUE at the first lesson in January, 2011. Encourage students over the holidays to try to complete some work in these magazines. It is usually pretty easy to find something to do and fun, too!

Junior Auditions 2010
This year, I decided to try a new event that is offered to piano teachers. It is called "Junior Auditons". It is sponsored by the Oklahoma Music Teachers Association and my local OMTBA group. Students in grades 3 through 8 perform one piece for a judge. Students are grouped as follows:
3rd & 4th grades, 5th & 6th grades, 7th & 8th grades
At the end of each group, the judge chooses a Winner, Alternate and sometimes, and Honorable Mention. Winners are expected to perform at the Eastern District Conference for OMTA on Nov. 20. This is held at OBU in Shawnee, OK.
Well, I selected two students to participate in Junior Auditions this year. It was an experiment! I wanted to see how the Audition worked and if it was worth entering my students in on a regular basis. The experiment is complete and the result is: I think it is a great opportunity for serious students. I plan to have more patrticipate next year!
In the 5th & 6th grade category, DYLAN KUESTER was chosen as the WINNER!
In the 7th & 8th grade categorey, GAVIN MOORE was chosen as the ALTERNATE!
Congratulations to both of these fine young men. I couldn't be more proud!
Please congratulate these boys if you see them....
It was a good day!

October Theory Classes
In October, rather than Theory Classes, I will hold 2 Mini Recitals. These will be on Oct 18 and 19 - the week of fall break. My motive is two-fold:
1 - give students a chance to perform in front of a larger audience than Theory Class
2 - by doing this, no one misses a lesson in October. Otherwise, Weds, Thurs and Fri students would not get a lesson that week.
There will be no Theory Class later in October - just regular lessons.
You can choose which Mini Recital you want your students to attend:
Monday Oct 18 from 5:00-6:00
Tuesday Oct 19 from 5:00-6:00
Please let me know via email by Oct 1 which day you want your students to attend.
Thanks!

Patriotic Festival SPECIAL EVENTS
This year, for our Festival, BAMTA has chosen to host a Patriotic Festival. At the Festival, students will be able to bring donations to the Blue Star Mothers. They will also be able to stay after they perform and make a card or two for a service man or woman. This will be a nice opportunity to "give back" to our community.
Also different about this Festival:
Students will be given an assigned time to perform. They will enter the auditorium with about 10 other students and all of the family they desire to bring with them. Students will perform one by one before a judge and recieve a critique and an award for performing. The critiques will go home with the teachers, who will then share them with students at their lessons. So, plan to bring your own audience if you want to and enjoy a short Patriotic Concert on Oct 30.
Items that can be donated for Blue Star Mothers are:
- individually wrapped crackers
- breakfast bars
- single serving tune/chicken kits
- microwave popcorn
- rolaids
- lip balm
- puzzle books of all kinds
- playing cards and dice
- small bottles of tylenol/ibprofen
- cough drops
- eye drops
Location: Northside Christian Church (on Elm between 61st and 71st)
